Atlanta History Center brings the past to life. Located in the Buckhead district of Atlanta, Georgia, the Atlanta History Center comprises a history museum, research library and archives, two historic houses and a series of gardens.
The three major components of Atlanta History Center are: Atlanta History Museum, the Tullie Smith house, a farmhouse from nearby Dekalb County and the Swan House reflecting urban Atlanta of 1920s. Since July 2004 it has also included the Margaret Mitchell house named after U.S.'s famous author who wrote the best seller ‘Gone with the wind'.
It originated in 1926 as Atlanta Historical Society; it has since become a primary source of Atlanta regional and national history.
The center recreates the pathos and tribulations undergone by the people of Atlanta in the Civil War through DuBose collection and Civil War artifacts. Its museum opened in October 1993 with five award winning exhibitions. With its famous signature exhibitions Atlanta History Museum is one of Southeast's biggest museums.
The Atlanta History Center has got facilities for people with disabilities also. Large print reading materials as well as subtitled video presentations are available.
Hours: Mon- Sat: 10am- 5:30pm, Sun: Noon- 5:30pm
Ticketing: for adults; for seniors 65+ and students 13 and up; for youths 4 to 12; Free for Members and children under 3. (Please note that these rates do not include sales.)
