Keeping Active

 If you want to keep active and in constant search for recreation and sports, Atlanta has everything for you. There are sports events throughout the year for both amateur and professionals. Four of the Pro Sports teams in Atlanta are the: Atlanta Thrashers, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Braves.

Atlanta's Professional teams

The Atlanta Thrashers play for the National Hockey League and calls Philips Arena their home. It was only in June 25, 1997 when the city was awarded an NHL franchise. The "Thrasher" was a name taken from Atlanta, Georgia's state bird called brown thrasher. The Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Hawks on the other hand are both professional Football and Basketball teams which were franchised in 1965 and 1946 respectively. While the Atlanta Braves are pro baseball team who are member of the National League's Eastern Division. This team has been playing at Turner Field since 1997. Their name originated from the Native American warriors which are nicknamed Bravos.
