Music is the soul of life and Jazz is one of its most popular forms. The City of Atlanta, through the Office of Cultural Affairs, presents The 29th Atlanta Jazz Festival. The Atlanta Jazz Festival is regarded as one of the country's largest free jazz festivals and according to Mayor Shirley Franklin "The festival was formed to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our city and has blossomed into a celebration of our nation's contribution to human expression. Music heals. It reaches deep within the human soul and soothes and nourishes the empty hearted and cultivates the spirit of community that surges through the City of Atlanta. The Atlanta Jazz Festival is one of the city's proudest traditions."

It offers 31 days of Jazz performances, fine dining and great events during the entire month of May. The Atlantic jazz festival is full of zeal, energy and enthusiasm. The Atlanta Jazz Festival aims at entertaining and educating a wide audience of listeners in the rich heritage of jazz music in a variety of venues throughout Atlanta.

The 2006 Atlanta Jazz Festival builds on the success and heritage of previous festivals. As jazz artists perform enthralling the audience, applause reaches a crescendo with the public screaming for more.
