Atlanta Dogwood Festival celebrates the best that life has to offer – love of nature, music and dance and other creative arts. This festival has been running in Atlanta for the past 70 years. The term 'Dogwood' comes from a tree's name which is a native to Atlanta. On April 19, 1936, Atlanta invited the world to attend her first Dogwood Festival. Trees were planted in all parts of Atlanta under the sponsorship of the garden clubs and public spirited citizens interested in the beautification of the city.
The festival has partnered with Brian Olsen who excels in the art of painting along with music. Brian Olsen presents a novel event which will hold you spell bound. It is Art in Action, a live art performance set to rock and roll music. Paint brush in hand Brian captures on canvas famous music and sports personalities. He uses his fingertips, palms and elbows with three brushes in each hand, to paint their portraits on a large 4 x 6 inch canvas. Audiences will be amazed as he reveals his subjects in just a matter of minutes.
The Rhythm Tent is another unique attraction. Situated in the Meadow near 10th Street and Monroe next to the main stage, this interactive drum circle will invite event fans to participate in a drum circle led by a facilitator. It helps to bridge the generation gap where children, parents and grandparents participate together, enjoying themselves while music brings them closer to each other.
