In 1983, an exhibit was organized under the auspices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta called Jews and Georgians: A Meeting of Cultures, 1733 - 1983. The exhibit highlights Jewish culture, their artifacts and synagogues.
In 1996, the Museum opened at The Selig Center on Spring Street, and includes two core galleries, Creating Community: The Jews of Atlanta from 1845 to the present, and Absence of Humanity: The Holocaust Years, and the Marlene J. and William A. Schwartz Special Exhibitions Gallery.
The Holocaust Years present a moving picture of Jewish suffering during the brutal regime of Nazi Germany. The museum brings to the forefront the rich cultural heritage of the Jews and explores the universal themes of human dignity and respect for others.
The museum makes us look into ourselves and explore universal themes like tolerance, respect and human dignity.
