Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum came into existence in 1974 in order to promote the cultural resources of Atlanta. The highlight of the museum is a superb Cyclorama which has been on display in the city since 1893. A Cyclorama is a large cylindrical painting with a moving theatre. The Atlanta Cyclorama is famed to be the longest running show in the US and the largest oil painting in the world. Through the Cyclorama the visitor's can move back in time.
The Cyclorama vividly recreates the American civil war of 1864, with all its romance and pathos. It brings the battle of Atlanta to life and reminds you of an era gone by.
There are two floors of displays of Civil War artifacts, weapons, photographs, uniforms and videos. A touch screen computer system details the war day- by- day.
Various programs related to the encouragement and preservation of art and culture is also carried out in the museum by the eminent office of Cultural Affairs. The museum is a boon to art lovers.
